Contact Lens Care Products

Cleaners Cleaners are used to remove unwanted deposits such as oils and proteins. If these types of deposits are left on the contact lens it may lead to discomfort, eye irritation and decreased contact lens life. Cleaning is carried out by either gently rubbing all surfaces of the contact lens with a multipurpose contact lens solution or placing the contact lens in a contact lens case filled with a no rub multi purpose cleaning solution. Contact lenses should then be rinsed with a multi purpose solution prior to inserting in eye.

Disinfectants prevent infection by significantly reducing the number of "bugs" present on the contact lens such as bacteria and fungi. The contact lenses are soaked in a specially designed chemical disinfection solution usually overnight to ensure absolute disinfection even though the eye has a very good natural defence against contamination. In most cases the same solution is used for storage and disinfection.

Comfort drops, lubricants and rewetting drops
From time to time, especially in dry or air conditioned environments the eye loses tears to the atmosphere by evaporation, as do soft contact lenses lose some of their water content to the atmosphere. The normal tear levels cannot cope in keeping the contact lens moist, so lubricating or re-wetting drops are used to improve the comfort and maintain good vision.
